Artemis

$2,300.00

I finished working on this piece while streaming the Artemis mission during which the astronauts identified and proposed naming a previously unnamed, bright lunar crater "Carroll" to honor Carroll Taylor Wiseman, the late wife of mission commander Reid Wiseman who passed away in 2020. It was so moving it really made me look at the piece in my hands differently.

The murrini used in this piece uses homemade opaline and a newer ultra stiff black made by color science pioneer Mark Peiser. Because of the different viscosities you can feel every tiny dot. The phosphate in the opaline diffuses light and can create peach and pink striations with in the tiny bullseyes. All that to say, the blending of art and science has always been a huge part of my practice and ultimately what pulled me to glass in the first place.

This piece is dedicated to the big and small things humans do with science, and the creative spark in all of us.
